Mrs. Gussie Demeris Barrett Carter, 89, died Friday,  Jan. 19, 2018 WellStar West Georgia Hospice.

Mrs. Carter was born Feb. 1, 1928, in Springfield, Alabama.  She was the daughter of the late Bruce and Myrtis Gladney Barrett.  She was retired from Milliken.

She is a member of Oakside Baptist Church. She enjoyed spending time with her family, reading and gardening.

She had special love for her cats, Coonie and Georgie.

Survivors include her children Elaine Howard, David and Arlene Carter, Sara Fowler; grandchildren Elizabeth and Larry Moore, Nick and Rachel Carter and Lindsey and Timothy Mauzy, Wanda and Ray Nelson, Tracy Mills, Bubba Fowler, Dee Dee Fowler and 10 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Jan. 23 at 4 p.m. in the chapel at Hunter Allen Myhand.

A visitation will follow the service. The family request that flowers be omitted and memorial gifts given to Lebanon Christian Church 2100 County Road 79 Roanoke, Alabama 36274 or to a charity of your choice.

On Wednesday, Jan. 24 Her burial will be held at Lebanon Christian Church at 3 p.m. ET
