CORRECTION: This story has been updated to reflect the correct amount of money raised for West Georgia Star last year.

The Junior Service League of LaGrange brought Las Vegas to the city Saturday night with its casino night fundraiser. The money from the event was donated to Circles of Troup County.

Beth Hudson, Junior Service League chair of casino night, said this was the third year the league has held the event.

Hudson said the league has worked with Circles of Troup County before.

“Every year we pick a local charity to raise money for,” Hudson said. “This year we’re raising money for Circle of Troup County, and they help raise impoverished people out of poverty to teach them skills that they need to [be financially independent].”

Those who attended could bid on a silent auction, play at different card tables and enjoy the dance floor.

Lacey DeLong, chairman over provisions, said each group the league donates to meet specific criteria.

Last year, the league raised $15,000 for West Georgia Star.

“I think it’s good to bring the community together and also make them aware about Circles of Troup County, so they can participate in that maybe in the future,” Hudson said. “Not just to raise money for them at this event, but also to generate support for circles throughout the community and throughout LaGrange.”
