A man, 45, was taken to WellStar West Georgia Medical Center after getting shot in the leg Saturday around 1:30 a.m. during an altercation near Main Street.

According to LaGrange Police Lt. Dale Strickland, the man was trying to intervene to what was originally a domestic argument between a man and a woman.

“They were out there and they were having some kind of argument, and another female became involved in the argument. There was a physical fight that took place, and the victim came out to try to intervene maybe somewhat as a good Samaritan to break it up,” Strickland said.

“There were multiple people out there who appeared to be involved in the fight. When the fight became physical out there, several people were knocked to the ground including the victim, and sometime during that fight he was shot. There was a gun shot that was fired, and he was hit in the leg.”

When police arrived many of those involved in the fight started to leave, according to Strickland.

“Even though there were a lot of people out there and likely witnesses there, they did not stay around to talk to police when they got on the scene,” Strickland said.

Police are still looking to identify a suspect, Strickland said.

According to a police report, two women were arrested for disorderly conduct and public drunkenness at the scene around 2 a.m. An officer noticed the two women were yelling, using profane language and were attempting to fight with a person while police were investigating the crime.  The women smelled like alcohol and were asked to calm down and stop creating a public disturbance, according to the police report. They continued on and were arrested.
