WEST POINT — The City of West Point approved the purchase of a stretch of property on Highland Drive next to the Water Pollution Control Plant.

The purchase was made during a Monday work session of the West Point City Council.

For the price of $2,500, the city will take ownership of the land, which will then become part of the treatment plant.

The council unanimously approved the purchase.

In similar action, the council approved a property exchange on 10th Street.

During the public comments portion of the meeting, the council heard from several residents and officials.

Resident Roger Bailey asked about the status of an area being added to the historical district, whether speed limits could be better enforced along Avenue C, and if officers could investigate possible late-night activities near the West Point United Methodist Church.

The next West Point City Council work session will be held Feb. 8, and the next city council meeting will be held  Feb. 12. Both are slated to start at 5:30 p.m. EST.
