Lady Grangers wrap up number one seed

They’re number one.

The LaGrange Lady Grangers got another big performance from Aryan Dozier on the way to a 43-36 victory over Sandy Creek on Saturday.

With the win, the Lady Grangers improved to 10-0 in Region 5-AAAA, and they’ve wrapped up

the number one seed for the region tournament with two regular-season games remaining.

Dozier scored 32 points in Friday’s road win over Troup, and she stayed hot on Saturday with 25 points at Sandy Creek.

LaGrange was clinging to a one-point lead through three quarters, and it outscored Sandy Creek 15-9 in the final period to secure the win.

Chnaireia Strozier added 13 points for LaGrange, and she and Dozier combined for 12 points in the fourth quarter.

Blair Herrod also hit a 3-pointer in the fourth quarter to help LaGrange pull away.

In Saturday’s boys’ game, LaGrange was unable to overcome a difficult fourth quarter on the way to a 67-45 loss.

The Grangers were down 45-39 through three periods, but they were outscored 22-6 in the final quarter.

Bo Russell led LaGrange with 14 points, with 12 of those points coming in the second half.

Daz Williams made three 3-pointers and scored 11 points, and Jay Benton added seven points.

LaGrange fell to 5-5 in the region, and it is in fourth place with two regular-season games remaining.

LaGrange’s teams close the regular season with a pair of home games.

After playing Chapel Hill on Tuesday, LaGrange will face Central-Carroll on Wednesday in its regular-season finale.

TROUP: Cedartown pulled away in the fourth quarter to beat the Troup Lady Tigers 49-41 on Saturday.

It was deadlocked through three quarters, and Cedartown outscored Troup 18-10 in the final eight minutes to win going away.

Jedda Madden led Troup with 11 points, Kiya Fulton added nine points, and Amber Gilbert scored seven points.

The Lady Tigers fell to 4-5 in Region 5-AAAA, and they have three region games remaining this week.
