It was a tough offensive night for the Callaway Cavaliers, who saw their two-game winning streak come to a close with a 49-40 home loss to Temple on Tuesday.

The Cavaliers fell to 3-6 in Region 5-AA, and they’ll close the regular season with a home game against the Spencer Greenwave on Friday.

Despite their offensive struggles, the Cavaliers were right there late with a chance to win.

Callaway took the lead with less than four minutes remaining in the game, but Temple pulled away in the closing moments.

Kedrick Ramsey led the Cavaliers with 14 points, Kobe Jackson scored eight points, and Duke Simpson added seven points.

Jackson made Callaway’s only basket in the first quarter as Temple grabbed an 8-3 lead.

The Cavaliers had a bit more success in the second quarter, and they were down 16-12 at the half.

The Cavaliers got as close as one midway through the third quarter, but they were behind 31-23 as the final period began.

With Jackson leading the way, the Cavaliers made their move in the fourth quarter.

Jackson scored six consecutive points to begin the quarter, and Temple’s lead was down to 31-29 with 5:20 to play.

After the Tigers went up by five, the Cavaliers went on a 6-0 run to take the lead.

Ramsey pulled down an offensive rebound and scored with 3:50 remaining to cap the 6-0 run and put Callaway ahead 35-34.

After Temple went up by one, Ramsey made a free throw with 3:25 to play to deadlock the score once again.

The Tigers scored on their ensuing possession to regain the lead, this time for good.

Ramsey made two free throws with 1:34 remaining to get the Cavaliers within two, but the Tigers finished the game on a 7-0 run.
