Sharon Denise Howe

Mrs. Sharon (Sherry) Denise Howe, age 58 of Rockmart, Georgia passed away Saturday, Jan. 27, 2018, surrounded by her family at the residence of her niece in Arnoldsville, Georgia.

She was born in LaGrange, Georgia on May 20, 1959, a daughter of Wayne T Denney, Sr. and Jean Smith Denney.

Sherry was a 1977 graduate of LaGrange High School and received a degree in early childhood education of UGA in 1981, graduating summa cum laude. She continued her education at LaGrange College where she earned a master’s degree in early childhood education.

She began her teaching career at Crocker Primary in Hogansville, Georgia before moving to Rockmart, where she taught at Eastside Elementary School until her retirement in 2013. Mrs. Howe was a member of Rockmart First United Methodist Church and was very active in church ministries.

She is survived by her husband, Michael A. Howe, who she married on Dec. 31, 1986, in Las Vegas, Nevada; daughter Molly E. Howe of Sandy Springs; a brother, Tim Denney (Anne) of Hogansville; one sister Dawn Denney Newman (Pete) of LaGrange; father-in-law Jerry Howe of Winamac, Indian; two brother-in-laws; Rob Howe (Connie) and Don Howe (Sue) both of Winamac Indiana; one sister-in-law, Julie Howe Overwein of Florence, Kentucky; several nieces and nephews: Chris Denney, Eric, and Evan Howe, Donny and Beth Howe; and special nieces Hilary and Ashley Metz, who served as caregivers during Sherry’s illness.

A celebration of life service will be held Saturday, Feb. 3, 2018, at 11:30 a.m. in the sanctuary of the Rockmart First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jeanette Dickens and the Rev. Martha Dye Officiating and eulogies given by family and friends.

The family will receive friends Friday evening from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the home of Kirstie Hunt and Saturday from 10 a.m. until the service hour in the parlor of Rockmart First United Methodist Church.

In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorial contributions be made to Rockmart First United Methodist Church, Polk County Humane Society, Literacy Program of Georgia, Ferst Foundation for Literature or a charity of your choice.
