If all goes according to plan this weekend, Troup’s basketball teams will be at home next week for the Region 5-AAAA tournament.

The number three seeds on the boys’ and girls’ sides will host region-tournament games next week, and Troup’s teams will both finish third if they win their final two regular-season games.

First up are today’s games at Cartersville, and Troup’s teams close the regular season at Chapel Hill on Saturday.

While Troup still has work to do, LaGrange’s teams are done until the region tournament.

The LaGrange girls’ team will be the number one seed for the region tournament, while the boys’ team will finish third or fourth, depending on what happens this weekend.

On the girls’ side of the region, LaGrange (12-0) and Sandy Creek (8-3) will be the top two seeds, and Central-Carroll (6-5), Troup (5-5) and Cedartown (5-6) are all vying for the number three spot.

Cartersville (2-9) and Chapel Hill (0-10) will be the sixth and seven seeds, and they will meet in a play-in game next week.

Troup could finish tied with Central-Carroll for third place, but it would win the tie-breaker because of it two head-to-head wins.

If Troup gets the third seed, it would host the winner of the Cartersville and Chapel Hill game with a spot in the semifinals on the line.

On the boys’ side, Troup also controls its own destiny.

With two wins, Troup (6-4) would be the number three seed for the region tournament, and it would host the winner of a play-in game between Chapel Hill (1-9) and Central-Carroll (1-10).

If Troup loses one of those games, it would finish tied for third with LaGrange (7-5), and it would come down to a tie-breaker to determine the third seed.

Cedartown (5-6) is in line to finish fifth, and it would play the number four seed in the first round.
