A 44-year old West Point woman is facing five counts of criminal attempt murder and two counts of first degree arson for her alleged role in a residential fire that occurred earlier this week in West Point.

According to a West Point Police Department press release, Wanda Buckner is also facing numerous charges for an alleged assault that took place Aug. 25, 2017.

Officials determined the fire, which occurred in the 1400 block of Avenue K, was intentionally set. A joint investigation by the LaGrange Police Department and West Point Police Department looked into how the fire was set to the duplex, according to the press release.

The apartments were occupied at the time the fire was set, but no one was injured in the fire. Buckner was given five charges of criminal attempt murder and two charges of arson first degree from the incident, according to the West Point Police Department.

She is also facing charges from the assault, which include sexual battery, aggravated sodomy, aggravated assault, two counts of battery, reckless conduct and criminal trespassing.

Cameron Mitchell, public information officer with the West Point Police Department, said Buckner turned herself in at the West Point Police Department after the incident, and she was booked in the Troup County Jail Thursday.
