A man has been arrested for allegedly shooting and critically injuring a man on Juniper Street last week.

Jomo Lindsey, 33, of LaGrange, was arrested Sunday and is charged with criminal attempt murder, aggravated battery, aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime and possession of firearm by a convicted felon, according to a LaGrange Police Department press release.

Lindsey allegedly shot 27-year-old Deontre Johnson following a dispute at a party.

Lt. Dale Strickland with the LPD said Johnson is still in intensive care at an Atlanta hospital, and is currently paralyzed from the waist down. Strickland said the bullet went into Johnson’s spine.

“They were both at a friend’s house and there had been a get together or something,” Strickland said. “There was a verbal argument that began between the two that turned into a physical argument, like a pushing and shoving match. They were broken up and at some point during that pushing match, Lindsey produced a firearm or handgun and shot the victim in the chest. After shooting him in the chest, he fled the home.”

At the time of the shooting, officers believed nobody else was at the home during the residence.

“We were able to obtain information and know that there were other witnesses inside the home other than just the suspect and the victim,” Strickland said. “That case is still active. We are still chasing folks down who we believe were there for interviews who were not there when police arrived.”

Anyone with information is asked to call the LaGrange Police Department at (706) 883-2603.
