It’s tournament time.

With the regular season now in the rear-view mirror, the basketball teams from Callaway, LaGrange and Troup will turn their attention to their respective region tournaments.

While the girls’ teams from Callaway and LaGrange have first-round byes and won’t have to play until the semifinals, the other local teams each need to win one game to advance to the semis and qualify for the state tournament.

The Region 5-AA tournament begins at Heard County on Tuesday before moving to Spencer in Columbus for the remainder of the games.

The boys’ teams from Callaway and Heard County will play at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, with the winner advancing to play second-seeded Spencer on Thursday at 8:30 p.m.

The boys’ championship game is on Friday at 8:30 p.m., and the third-place game is at 5:30 p.m.

Callaway’s girls’ team, the tournament’s number two seed, won’t play until Thursday when it faces either Jordan or Heard County at 4 p.m.

The girls’ championship game is set for Friday at 7 p.m., and the third-place game is at 4 p.m.

The Region 5-AAAA tournament begins today, with the number six and seven seeds on the boys’ and girls’ sides each meeting in an elimination game.

On Tuesday, Troup will be the host site for a pair of girls’ tournament games.

Troup, the number three seed, will play either sixth-seeded Cartersville or seventh-seeded Chapel Hill at 7:30 p.m.

If Troup wins, it would take on second-seeded Sandy Creek on Thursday at 6 p.m. in the semifinals at LaGrange High.

On Wednesday, LaGrange will host two boys’ tournament games with semifinal berths on the line.

At 6 p.m., fourth-seeded Troup will play fifth-seeded Cedartown, and third-seeded LaGrange will face either Central-Carroll or Chapel Hill at 7 p.m.

The girls’ semifinal games are set for Thursday at LaGrange.

If Troup wins its first-round game, it would play second-seeded Sandy Creek at 6 p.m.

LaGrange, the top seed, will face either fourth-seeded Central-Carroll or fifth-seeded Cedartown at 7:30 p.m.

On Friday, the boys’ semifinal games will be played at Sandy Creek.

If LaGrange wins its tournament opener, it would play second-seeded Cartersville at 6 p.m.

If Troup beats Cedartown, it would face top-seeded Sandy Creek at 7:30 p.m.

On Saturday, the scene moves to LaGrange for the championship games and the third-place games.
