The soccer teams from Callaway and LaGrange took a test run on Friday as they hit the road for preseason games.

LaGrange’s teams were at Whitewater, while Callaway traveled to face Fayette County.

The LaGrange boys’ team earned a 1-0 victory over a strong Whitewater team, with Alex Bowie scoring the game’s lone goal, with John McDonald providing the assist.

Goal keepers Butler Evans, Jack DeVane and Cason Blackburn combined for the shutout.

In the girls’ game, LaGrange lost 7-2, with freshman Sydney Ormsby and Caroline Thompson each scoring a goal.

At Fayette County, Callaway’s girls’ team was without head coach

Shonna Yawn, who was attending her grandmother’s funeral in Texas.

With Jeff McGuffin filling in as coach, Callaway won 2-1, with Kelly Carlisle scoring both of her team’s goals.

In the boys’ game, the Cavaliers lost 2-0.

Callaway’s Hugo Lopez and John Cooprider each spent time in goal and made some outstanding saves.

Offensively, Callaway had its chances according to head coach Mike Petite.

Petite said “Wes Brooks played two great crosses on the ground in front of their goal that we just couldn’t get a foot on.”

Petite added that Noah Stephens had “four quality free kicks that we just missed on.”

Also, Tyler Lewis just missed on two headers off of corner kicks.

“We are still trying to find out who can best serve the team in different positions and tonight went a long way to helping that,” Petite said. “Solid effort throughout the game by our guys who worked hard all game long.”
