The Troup County School System used its One Call Now system Friday to alert parents of students at Callaway High School and Troup High School that there was no threat to students, despite rumors going around.

Yolanda Stephen, director of public relations for TCSS, said the two potential threats were not related. She sent out a statement on both threats.

“We have received a number of rumors and concerns about a social media post by a [Callaway High School] student which contained threats and potentially threatening language against the school,” Stephen said. “The issue was immediately investigated and appropriate disciplinary action taken. The School Resource Officer assisted with the investigation and there was an increased law enforcement presence visible at the school. At no time were CHS students or staff in danger.”

There was also a “potential threat to school safety” at Troup High School, Stephen said.

“Today, the administration at Troup High learned of rumors and concerns related to a potential threat to school safety,” Stephen said. “All such reports are taken very seriously by school and system administrators and immediately investigated. When reports were received today, immediate action was taken. As a precautionary measure, additional law enforcement will be assisting the School Resource Officer in the days ahead.”

It is unclear if any arrests were made in either case.
