THOMASTON – The Upson-Lee Knights rallied from a 5-0 deficit to beat Troup 6-5 on Tuesday.

It was the first loss of the season for Troup (5-1), which will look to begin a new winning streak on Thursday at home against Central-Phenix City.

The Tigers seemed to be in control after scoring four runs in the second inning and one more in the third to go up 5-0, but the Knights weren’t done.

Upson-Lee scored single runs in the third, fourth and fifth innings to get within two, and it won the game with three runs in the bottom of the seventh.

Troup scored all four of its runs in the second inning with two outs.

Garrett Casey and Cade Garner each reached on one-out singles, and Brantly Robinson later walked to load the bases with two outs.

That brought leadoff hitter Ryan Bliss to the plate, and his two-run double gave Troup a 2-0 lead.

After Caleb McCurry was hit by a pitch, Robinson and Bliss both scored on a passed ball, and Troup was ahead 4-0.

The Tigers added a single run in the third inning.

After Kenly Bridwell reached on an error, Cooper Doughman’s RBI double pushed the lead to 5-0.

That was it for the Tigers.

The Knights, meanwhile, began chipping away at their deficit, and they were down by two when they came to bat in the bottom of the seventh.

It was a 5-4 game when Brooks Gulley stepped to the plate with the bases loaded and two outs, and he won the game with a two-run single.

Casey had two of Troup’s seven hits, and Bliss, McCurry, Bridwell, Doughman and Garner each had one hit.

Alex Blount and Trace Park each hit home runs for Upson-Lee.
