Callaway collects region wins

Callaway’s soccer teams opened Region 5-AA play with one-sided wins over Jordan on Tuesday.

In the girls’ game, Kelly Carlisle scored six goals as Callaway rolled to an 11-1 win.

Cheney Eubanks added two goals for Callaway, and Abbie Gholston, Chloe McGuffin and Amiya McCurty each had one goal.

In the boys’ game, Ian Bryan had a big night with four goals as Callaway eased to an 8-0 victory.

Joe Neese had two goals for the Cavaliers, and Grayson Lambert and Michael Everett each had one goal.

Also on Tuesday, LaGrange’s teams hosted Pike County as they tuned up for Friday’s Region 5-AAAA openers at Central-Carroll.

In the girls’ game, each team scored a first-half goal and they fought to a 1-1 tie.

Maggie Asbell scored LaGrange’s goal.

In the boys’ game, LaGrange rallied from a 2-0 first-half deficit to beat Pike County 3-2.

It was tied 2-2 when Max Halcomb made a penalty kick for the go-ahead goal, and Harrison Hunnicutt and Robert Reese also scored for LaGrange.
