It wasn’t LaGrange’s day.

In a Region 5-AAAA tennis showdown, it was Cartersville getting the best of LaGrange in the girls’ and boys’ matches on Tuesday afternoon at McCluskey Tennis Center.

Cartersville won the boys’ match 5-0, and it prevailed in the girls’ match 4-1.

It was the first loss of the season for both LaGrange teams, who are now 4-1.

“We played with them pretty good, and they are pretty good,” LaGrange coach Kenny Moore said. “They were better than us.”

The teams could end up facing each other again in the region tournament in April at Sunset Hills Country Club in Carrollton.

“We’ll probably see them down the road,” Moore said.

LaGrange’s lone win came at number two doubles on the girls’ side, with Lizzie Wilkerson and Kaylee Key getting it done.

While LaGrange’s boys’

team didn’t win any matches, Jackson Kuerzi pushed Will Allen to three sets before falling short at number one singles.

All three sets went to a tiebreak, with Allen winning two of them to secure the hard-fought win.

“He played his heart out,” Moore said of Kuerzi.

LaGrange’s Pierce Skinner also lost a tight one at number two singles, with Cartersville’s Matthew Slocum winning 6-4, 7-6 (7-4).

At number three singles, LaGrange’s James Lee fell to Luke Kotteman 6-1, 6-1.

The number one doubles match went all three sets, with LaGrange’s Jinseong Jun and Youngha Cho falling to Davis Edwards and Juan Zazueta 6-2, 4-6, 7-5.

At number one doubles, LaGrange’s Baker Skinner and Albert Kim lost to Ivy Nelson and Ross Norwood 6-3, 6-1.

On the girls’ side, Cartersville’s Ashley Popham beat Wone Mi Oh 6-0, 6-0 at number one singles, and LaGrange’s Annie Pauley lost to Emma McCary 6-2, 6-3 at number two singles.

At number three singles, LaGrange’s Louise Dodson lost the first set 6-0, but she competed well in the second set before losing to Ansley Thompson 7-5.

At number one doubles, LaGrange’s Abbi Lynn Lanier and Ella Eiland fell to Jordan Ross and Lydia Wedietz 6-2, 6-3.

In the number two doubles match, it was Wilkerson and Key getting the best of Alice Terry and Chloe Satterfield 6-4, 6-1.

LaGrange will be at Jekyll Island on Friday and Saturday for a tournament before returning to region play on Tuesday against Central-Carroll at McCluskey Tennis Center.
