New park coming to downtown LaGrange

This week’s LaGrange City Council meeting was full of big news and should give LaGrange citizens plenty to look forward to in 2018.

The first announcement was a new park, called Southbend Park, that will be placed near Wild Leap Brew Co. The park will include a dog park — which has been atop the “want” list for many — a playground, a pavilion and open space.  The park is being built by the city’s new skate park, which will begin construction this summer.

The park is being constructed by the Callaway Foundation and will include $1 million worth of recreational amenities.

The Callaway Foundation plans to break ground on the project in April and complete it by June or July, depending on whether or not the weather cooperates.

The second announcement was about the third section of The Thread Trail. Construction will start by the end of April and the third section will go down Broad Street. The second part of The Thread is almost finished, and the first section at Granger Park remains a very popular place this time of the year. The third section will actually piece together with the first section, giving cyclists and runners more space to reach their daily milestones.

At this point, it’s hard to keep up with all the projects going on in LaGrange. Earlier this week, we wrote about all of the outdoor amenities LaGrange, Troup County and the surrounding area have. Little did we know that a few days later there would be even more to list and more to do.

We’re looking forward to the new park and to the next addition to The Thread. Both are going to make LaGrange a better place to live and work.
