Rev. Marion Shivers

The Rev. Marion M. Shivers, 96, of Rainbow City, Alabama, passed away Wednesday, Mar. 7, 2018, at Gadsden Health and Rehab Center.

The Rev. Shivers was born Oct. 1, 1921, in Randolph County, Alabama, son of the late Ealie and Dochie Laney Shivers. A U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II, he was a graduate of LaGrange College and was a minister in the North Georgia Conference of the United Methodist Church for many years, serving a number of Methodist churches in the west Georgia area. Before making his home in Rainbow City in 2013, he lived in Hogansville for 30 years and was a member of First United Methodist Church of Hogansville, the Hogansville Lions Club and the Hogansville Ministerial Association.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Sue Saylors Shivers, and is survived by his sons, Steve and Becky Shivers of Gadsden, Alabama, Richard and Susan Shivers of Buford, Georgia; grandchildren, Matthew Shivers, Heath Shivers, Greg and Ashley Shivers; great-grandson, Simon Shivers; sisters, Mildred Brown, Annie Ruth and Jimmy Clark, Kathleen Evans and sister in-law, Trish Shivers.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m., Saturday, in the chapel of Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home, with interment in Myrtle Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from noon until 1 p.m. Saturday.
