Troup finishes play in tournament

EMERSON – The Troup Tigers completed their stay in the Perfect Game High School Showdown with a 10-5 loss to North Broward Prep (Fla.) on Saturday morning.

Troup (8-4), which has won back-to-back region titles, will host Chapel Hill on Tuesday in its Region 5-AAAA opener.

The Perfect Game tournament featured an elite field of some of the top baseball teams in the Southeast, and Troup finished with a 1-3 record.

In its tournament finale, Troup took the lead with a pair of runs in the top of the first inning, but North Broward went on top with three runs in the top of the second, and it held the lead the rest of the way.

Troup had some offensive success with eight hits.

Cooper Doughman had two hits and an RBI, and Colby Williams also had two hits.

Cam Gosdin had a double and an RBI, and Garrett Casey and Cade Garner each had a hit and an RBI. Caleb McCurry had a hit and a run scored.

Of the three Troup pitchers who appeared, Colton Greathouse was the most effective, throwing 1 1/3 scoreless innings.

On Friday night, Troup lost to College Station (Tex.) 14-6.

Doughman and Williams both had a hit and two RBIs, and Casey had an RBI single.

Bliss had two hits, a walk, and two runs scored.

Earlier on Friday, Troup beat North Gwinnett 4-3 for its lone tournament win, with Caleb McCurry coming through with a walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Bliss had two hits and three RBIs, and Webb also had three hits.

Casey got the complete-game victory.

In its tournament opener, Troup lost to Loganville 11-0.
