St. Patrick’s Day Block Party to be held Saturday

On Saturday, Main Street will fill with green and gold as the Downtown LaGrange Development Authority and Wild Leap Brew Co. host the fourth annual St. Patrick’s Day Main Street Block Party.

Last year, the celebration drew in more than 700 people, and this year, even more people are expected to attend. The event will feature musical performances and special deals from downtown merchants, at what organizers hope will be the biggest and best St. Patrick’s Day event to date.

“This is our fourth St. Patrick’s Day celebration in downtown LaGrange,” said Barbie Watts, director of promotions and marketing for the LaGrange DDA. “It’s a block party, and this year we are going to have music in two locations.”

Mr. Terrific will perform on the Showmobile Stage on Main Street from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. near the flag pole. The Smoke & Mirrors band will perform on the Main Plaza Stage at Wild Leap Brew Co. from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. This is the second year that Wild Leap has been a part of the event, and while the local craft brewery will probably stay busy during the event between musical entertainment and other festivities, other local businesses will also enjoy the increased foot traffic.

“It is one of our restaurants’ busiest nights,” Watts said. “They do great business. They love celebrating St. Patrick’s Day. It is one of their biggest nights of the year.”

Many local restaurants will feature food and drink specials and bands for the event as well. Brickhouse Grille will feature live music by Corbin Hoats at 5 p.m. and GP-38 at 9 p.m. Main Street Pub will host The Wyatt Band at 9 p.m.

Additionally, downtown retailers have donated prizes.

“The retailers enjoy it too because a lot of people will come into their shops while they are downtown at the event,” Watts said. “This year, some of the merchants have been extremely generous. We are giving away door prizes at 7 p.m., and you have to be present to win.”

Some of the prizes will include a lady’s bicycle donated by Golden’s Bikes, two wristlets and two $10 gift cards donated by Stephen’s Exclusives and two LaGrange Symphony Orchestra tickets for the March 20 show donated by Market Place at Lafayette Square.

“In the shops and restaurants downtown, there is a Lucky Card,” Watts said. “It is a little business card that people need to find in the stores and sign their name on them and then drop them in the pot of gold at Marketplace at Lafayette Square to be eligible for this drawing.”

The St. Patrick’s Day Main Street Block Party is scheduled to take place on Saturday from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. on Main Street.
