Callaway eases past Temple

The Callaway Cavaliers began defense of their Region 5-AA championship with a 13-2 road win over Temple on Tuesday.

Chandler Lott started and pitched four innings to get the win, and Austin Barber threw a scoreless fifth inning to finish it.

Lott was sharp, giving up four hits and no earned runs while striking out nine.

Barber walked three in the fifth inning, but he didn’t allow any runs.

Offensively, Kyle Campbell had a big day for Callaway with three hits and two RBIs, and Braelin Mitchell added two hits and two RBIs.

Jabari Smith had two hits and an RBI, and Drake Wade had two hits and two runs scored.

Trent Sheppard had a hit and four runs scored, Destin Patrick had a hit and two RBIs, and Brooks Bledsoe had an RBI.

The Cavaliers got the scoring started with five runs in the first inning.

Wade began the game with a double, and he scored on Sheppard’s bunt single.

Campbell added a two-run single, Smith knocked in a run with a hit, and another run scored on a Bledsoe bunt.

Callaway scored three more runs in the second inning.

Mitchell had an RBI single, and two other runs scored when Wesley Marchman reached on an error.

In the third inning, Mitchell had a two-run single to push the lead to 10-0.

In the fourth inning, the Cavaliers scored their final three runs, with Patrick knocking in two runs with a single.

Callaway will visit Manchester today before hosting Temple on Friday.
