It wasn’t their night.

The LaGrange Grangers fell behind by two runs in the first inning of Friday’s showdown with the Troup Tigers, and they went on to lose 9-0.

As LaGrange head coach David Smart told the players following the loss, though, “you’ve got to have some amnesia” during a baseball season.

“You’ve got to have short-term memory,” Smart added. “Our objective is to pick up as many region wins as we can. We didn’t get this one tonight, so we’ll be move on to the next one.”

For LaGrange, the next one comes up on Tuesday when it hosts Central-Carroll in a Region 5-AAAA game.

LaGrange is 1-1 in the region after opening with a 1-0 win over Cedartown before falling to Troup.

LaGrange’s opponent on Tuesday will be a Central-Carroll team that has been playing well.

With Friday’s 7-2 win over Cedartown, Central-Carroll improved to 2-1 in the region.

“You’ve got to get back to work, and get ready to play a good Central team,” Smart said.

LaGrange finishes the week with two other region games.

After visiting Cartersville on Thursday, LaGrange closes the week with a home game against Sandy Creek on Friday.

Troup, meanwhile, will look to keep the momentum going as it tries to win a third consecutive region championship.

Troup has beaten Chapel Hill, Cedartown and LaGrange to move to 3-0 in Region 5-AAAA.

Troup plays two region games this week, including a home showdown against Cartersville on Friday.

Before that, Troup will be on the road against Central-Carroll on Thursday.

The Callaway Cavaliers, who are 3-0 in Region 5-AA after beating Temple three times last week, don’t have any games this week.

Callaway won’t play again until March 27 when it hosts Lamar County, and those same two teams will play a doubleheader on March 30 in Barnesville.

In GISA baseball, LaGrange Academy will visit The Cottage School on Tuesday before opening its Region 1-AA schedule on Friday with a home game against Brandon Hall.

LaGrange Academy (1-4 overall) broke through for its first win on Friday when it got past Lafayette Christian 7-2.

Lafayette Christian plays three games this week.

Lafayette Christian is at home against Arlington on Tuesday and Praise Academy on Friday, and it visits Konos Academy on Saturday.
