Preparing for severe weather season

Spring technically starts tomorrow, but the weather outside has already turned warm and flowers are beginning to bloom.

It’s one of the best times of the year because it means more time outside and great weather. It’s about this time of the year that we all start to think about vacation destinations and try to plan accordingly.

If there’s one downside to the spring, it’s that we’re officially into the busiest time of the year for severe weather and tornadoes. Typically, from March through June there are more tornadoes than any other time of the year. And according to USTornadoes.com, Georgia is one of the top five states for tornadoes in the month of March.

It looks like the first chance of severe weather this month will take place today.

Our area is under a “slight risk” of severe storms Monday night into Tuesday morning, which includes isolated tornadoes, large hail and heavy winds.

We recommend getting an app on your phone that will wake you up if Troup County goes under a tornado warning.

We’ll also update our Facebook page and website any time there’s severe weather.

Hopefully this will be a quiet Monday and a quiet spring storm season as a whole, but it’s better to be safe than sorry. Get an app, make a plan and be prepared.
