Severe weather could impact Troup County and surrounding areas on Monday evening, bringing the possibility of tornadoes, large hail and heavy winds.

The National Weather Service in Peachtree City has included Troup County in its “enhanced risk” area for severe weather. Enhanced means there are numerous severe storms possible and those storms are likely to be more persistent or widespread.

Parts of northwest Georgia, including Rome, are under a moderate risk — which is higher on the scale — for severe storms.

Storms are likely to form between 5 p.m. and 2 a.m. The primary threat with the storms are tornadoes, very large hail up 2 inches, damaging winds over 60 miles per hour and frequent lightning, according to the NWS.
