It wasn’t their day.

The Troup Tigers headed into Friday’s showdown with Cartersville riding high with a 4-0 Region 5-AAAA record, but they were unable to get anything going on the way to a 5-0 loss.

Adam Seigler hit a pair of home runs for Cartersville, and Mason Barnett pitched six scoreless innings to earn the win.

The Tigers had some scoring chances, including the third inning when they loaded bases, but they couldn’t break through.

Colby Williams had two of Troup’s four hits, and Ryan Bliss and Cooper Doughman had one hit apiece.

Garrett Casey was Troup’s starting pitcher, and he threw the first four innings and allowed three earned runs.

Cam Gosdin pitched two innings and gave up one run, and Colton Greathouse threw a scoreless seventh inning.

Seigler started things with a bang, with his leadoff solo home run giving Cartersville a 1-0 lead after the first inning.

Cartersville added a second run in the third inning, with Josh Davis reaching on a one-out double and later scoring on a passed ball.

Leading 2-0, Cartersville doubled its lead with a Seigler two-run home run in the top of the fourth inning.

A Preston Welchel RBI double in the sixth inning capped the scoring.

The Tigers had plenty of opportunities to put a run on the scoreboard.

In the bottom of the first, Williams and Doughman had back-to-back hits with two outs, but they were both stranded.

In the third inning, Troup loaded the bases.

Bliss and Williams singled, and Doughman reached on an error to fill the bases, but Barnett got a strikeout to end the threat.

Troup also got two men on in the fourth inning after Cade Garner was hit by a pitch and Colton Webb reached on an error, but Cartersville turned a double play for the second and third outs.

Troup’s final scoring opportunity came in the seventh when it got a couple of men on, but another double play ended the inning, and the game.

Troup visits Sandy Creek on Tuesday.
