Man shot in hands while traveling on Interstate 85

A 21-year-old man was shot in the hands while riding as a passenger in a vehicle Thursday on Interstate 85. According to a Troup County Sheriff’s Office press release, the man was sitting in the passenger seat in a moving vehicle near mile marker 7 or 8.

The car’s window shattered, and there were immediate injuries to the man’s hands, according to the press release. The incident happened Thursday around 6:20 a.m.

The man was taken to the WellStar West Georgia Medical Center Emergency Department.

The victim told police that the suspect was traveling in a silver vehicle, but no other details were immediately known.

“Right now, we’re just considering it a random shooting, and if anybody has information about who the shooter was or what happened, we just encourage them to call either our investigators or Crime Stoppers,” said TCSO Sgt. Stewart Smith.

A bullet fragment was recovered from the car, according to the press release.
