The LaGrange Daily News has recently written articles on two people who have been serving the county for more than three decades.

Commissioner Richard English has represented district 5 of Troup County for 40 years.

Over that time English has argued for the concerns of the people who elected him time and time again, and that is why he has been reelected to his seat.

He is notable not just for his service though, but for the distinction of being the first and only African American to serve on the Troup County Board of Commissioners.

We also covered Troup County Fire Chief Dennis Knight, who has worked to keep the citizens of Troup County safe for more than 30 years — first as a volunteer and now as the fire chief.

Knight initially volunteered with the fire department when he was 18-years-old.

His interest and commitment to the department have remained strong since then, and three years ago, he was promoted to fire chief.

Over his decades of service, Knight has saved countless lives in our community, both directly and indirectly.

Both of these men have displayed a strong commitment to the residents of Troup County, and we thank them for their service.
