Coach Richard Shrewsbury

Coach Richard “Dick” Shrewsbury, 89, of LaGrange, Georgia passed away Saturday, March 31, 2018 at his home.

Mr. Shrewsbury was born Oct. 1, 1928, in Caneyville, Kentucky, to the late Ralph Damien Shrewsbury and Grace Snyder. “Coach,” as everyone affectionately referred him, taught Physical Education and coached Basketball. He won three state championships and was runner up twice during his career at LaGrange High School. He retired from Troup County School System.

He was preceded in death by his lovely wife of 41 years, Mary Shrewsbury. He is survived by his sons, Richard (Lori) Shrewsbury Jr. of Lilburn; Ronald (Jennifer) Shrewsbury of Bardstown, Kentucky and Michael Shrewsbury of Loganville; grandchildren, Richard Shrewsbury III, Joshua Shrewsbury, Alyssa Shrewsbury, John Shrewsbury, Luke Shrewsbury and Haley Shrewsbury.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, April 5, 2018, at First Presbyterian Church of LaGrange with the Rev. Dr. Harry Barrow officiating. The gathering of family and friends will be on Wednesday, April 4, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary.
