Go fishing on West Point Lake

Published 5:42 pm Tuesday, April 3, 2018

Troup County is the best kept secret with West Point Lake right here in our backyard.

George  Middleton and Dr. Dick Noles were having fun on West Point Lake the last Friday in  March while fishing. Dick was a college professor while I was at the University of Georgia and was loved for his famous fish fries he had for his college students. He also has a son-in-law, George Middleton, who loves to eat fish.

George took him fishing last week, and I was asked to join in. Joey Mines not only let us catch 125 fish but was the perfect host and showed us a family of bald eagles while we were there.

The day was  beautiful and we saw several dozen boats of other people fishing. It was so good to see people back on West Point Lake. Stephen and George really gave their special father and father-in-law a great day on the lake doing what he loves to do. Go Fishing.

Yes, it was a blessed day for this old boy too. I was with dear friends and thought about the good times I had up in Athens years  ago. My dare to you, take someone special to you fishing.

May God Bless!

Support Sporting Clay Tournament

The Kiwanis Club Sporting Clay Tournament is April 14. This year we are hoping for 36 teams with four people on each team. In the past, this has been an all male event with a few ladies there to cheer  on the  guys.

This year the sheriff’s department will be having an all ladies team and we are so excited about having the ladies out to shoot their guns for a great cause. Taking part will be Lt. Samantha Duran, Inv. Kendall Ham, Capt. Kelli Ellington and Joy Burnham. Our main goal is to  give away $10,000 in scholarships to help students who go to LaGrange College and West  Georgia Tech.

If you’re a shooter, we would love for you to join in with a team.

You will get to come out, enjoy a great day, take a $400 tax write off, have  good fun and have a great meal from Sloppy Pig — they have awesome barbecue with dessert.

This is a fun day for everyone that comes. If you’re not a shooter, you can make a check out to the Kiwanis Club and held a young person with their education.

If you buy a team or make a donation, here is a big thank you in advance.
