Colby Williams was in command again.

The Troup High pitcher, who has been over-powering batters the past two seasons, had his way with Harris County’s lineup on Wednesday afternoon.

Williams threw a complete-game five-hitter to help Troup beat Harris County 5-1 to improve to 16-5 as the regular season hits the home stretch.

Troup has two more non-region games this week before resuming its Region 5-AAAA schedule next week.

There are a little more than two weeks remaining in the regular season, and Troup is looking to chase down a third consecutive region championship.

Troup is 7-1 in the region, and it is one game behind Cartersville.

While the games this week won’t have an impact on Troup’s position in the region, head coach Craig Garner said they’re still important.

“Obviously we want to play good from the beginning of the season, all the way to the end,” Garner said. “But when spring break hits, that is our turning point. That’s where we really want to start dialing in and getting a whole lot better.”

It helps to have Williams on the mound.

He was a key member of the staff as a freshman in 2015, and the past two seasons he has been the team’s ace.

Harris County scored an unearned run in the top of the first inning, but it was held scoreless the rest of the way by Williams.

Williams held the Tigers to five hits and one walk in seven innings, and he had seven strikeouts.

Williams finished strong, retiring the final eight batters he faced.

Williams also did his part at the plate with an RBI double that gave the Tigers the lead in the third inning.

Leadoff hitter Ryan Bliss had a triple and a double and two runs scored, and Caleb McCurry had a two-run single in the sixth inning that gave the Tigers a 5-1 lead.

The Tigers were down 1-0 when they pushed a pair of runs across in the bottom of the third inning.

With one out, Bliss launched the ball to right field for a triple, and he scored on a balk to pull the Tigers even.

After McCurry walked and moved to second on a wild pitch, Williams gave Troup the lead with his RBI double.

Troup added another run in the fifth inning.

Ethan Morton led off with a walk, and Bliss followed with a double to put men on second and third.

McCurry was hit by a pitch to load the bases, and Morton came home on a wild pitch, and Troup led 3-1.

The Tigers capped the scoring with a pair of runs in the sixth inning.

Cade Garner led off with a walk, and with two outs, Bliss walked to put two men on.

After Garner and Bliss both moved up on a wild pitch, McCurry laced the ball to right field on an 0-2 pitch to bring in two runs.

Down in the count, McCurry said his mindset was to “protect the plate. I had men on second and third, so I was just trying to put the ball in play. It worked out.”

Troup will be back on its home field today against Shaw, with first pitch set for 5:55 p.m.

Troup will host Mount Paran on Friday at 4 p.m.
