There were numerous tents at Saturday’s Grilled Cheese Showdown event at Wild Leap Brew Co., but one of the most noticeable wasn’t cooking anything.

The one not cooking grilled cheese sandwiches was a tent for the Thread, so that people could get information about the 29 miles of trails planned in LaGrange. Presumably this is one of the busiest times of the year for the trail at Granger Park, since the weather is warming up. (Mother Nature decided to get in one final cold spell over the weekend.)

A ribbon cutting will be held for the second portion of The Thread at Eastside Park on April 21, which is under two weeks from now.

The second portion of the trail will go beside the Calumet Center, the Shuford Fields Softball Complex, the George Harris Baseball Complex and end up near the Mike Daniel Recreation Center.

The trail will open with a timed 5K at 8 a.m.  Registration is still ongoing and you can guarantee yourself a T-shirt by registering by Thursday.

But there will be plenty to do for non-runners too.

There will be giveaways, food and games. A cutest dog contest will be held at 10 a.m., and based on how much everyone loves animals, that figures to be very competitive.

We’ve written it before, but we’ll say it again.  Other communities would love to have this trail system being installed, and it’s already proven to be an asset for LaGrange.

We hope everyone will take some time on April 21 to support The Thread. It’s making LaGrange a better place to live and work.
