away Cavaliers tuned up for their showdown with Heard County by taking on Handley (Ala.) on Monday afternoon.

Callaway lost 5-1, with head coach Dusty Hubbard using the game as an opportunity to get a lot of different players on the field.

Pitchers Wesley Marchman, Walt Stewart, Drake Wade, Austin Barber and Kyle Campbell all got some work.

Marchman, Barber and Campbell didn’t allow any runs.

Wade led the offensive effort with two hits.

Handley scored all five of its runs in the third inning.

The stakes will be a lot higher today and Friday when Callaway plays Heard County for the Region 5-AA championship.

They’ll play one game today at Callaway, and Heard County will host a doubleheader on Friday at 5:30 p.m.

The winner of the series will secure the region championship and will be the number one seed for the state tournament, while the loser will finish second.

Both teams are 8-1 in the region.
