Cougars’ rally falls just short

Lafayette Christian rallied from a nine-run deficit to make a game of it, but it was Holy Ground holding on for a 12-10 victory on Tuesday at the Harris Baseball Complex.

Holy Ground led 11-2 after scoring six runs in the top of the third inning, but Lafayette Christian fought back.

The Cougars got within two after scoring three runs in the sixth inning, but that’s as close as they got.

Caleb Deavers had two of the Cougars’ 10 hits, and he drove in two runs.

Cason Firth and Tanner Jackson had two hits apiece, and Nathan Karvelas had a hit and three RBIs.

Cameron Elliott had a hit and two RBIs, Jacob Karvelas had a hit and an RBI, and Zach Thompson had a hit.

Karvelas started and pitched two innings for the Cougars, and Justin Moore pitched two innings.

TENNIS: LaGrange High’s tennis teams will play for a Region 5-AAAA championship today at Sunset Hills Country Club in Carrollton.

LaGrange’s boys’ and girls’ teams each won their matches on Tuesday to earn the shot at a title.

LaGrange’s girls’ team beat Troup 4-0 in the first round before surviving for a 3-2 victory over Central-Carroll in the second round.

LaGrange’s boys’ team beat Sandy Creek 3-0 in the first round before easing past Cedartown 4-1 in the second round.

LaGrange’s teams will square off against Cartersville in today’s championship matches.

First up will be the girls’ match at 1 p.m., and the boys’ match follows at 2:30 p.m.

Whatever happens today, LaGrange’s teams will be at home for the opening round of the Class AAAA state tournament.
