Mr. Don Toney

Mr. Donnie Lee “Don” Toney, age 72, of Newnan passed away Sunday, April 8, 2018.

Funeral services for Mr. Toney will be conducted Wednesday, April 11, 2018, at 2 p.m. from the chapel of Stutts Funeral Home with the Rev. Darnell Teal and Mr. O. A. Powers officiating. Interment will follow in Mount Pleasant Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mr. Toney was born Nov. 16, 1945, in LaGrange to the late Rev. James Radney Toney and Zora Mae Kitchens Toney. He was a member of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church.

He hauled cars for a living for 36 years, a job he loved. He was last employed with Rider Trucking. He also served as president of Teamsters Local 528 from 2005 to 2013.

In his free time, he loved working outdoors. He was especially proud of his garden he grew each year. Often you could find him on his tractor tilling the soil for the next crop.

He loved his family and enjoyed having everyone together for food and fellowship.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Toney of Newnan; one daughter, Cecelia Nations (Phil) of LaGrange; one son, Monty Ballard of LaGrange; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; one sister, Sue Traylor (Ronnie) of LaGrange; three brothers: Rodney Toney of LaGrange, Floyd Toney (Cherry) of Whitesburg, and Charles Toney of Newnan; a beloved companion, his dog Sam; and a number of other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a son, Gary Ballard.
