Cavaliers ready for playoffs

The Callaway Cavaliers tuned up for the playoffs by taking on a strong Pike County on Friday afternoon.

Pike County (21-5 overall), which won Region 4-AAA with an unbeaten record, scored four runs in the first inning on the way to an 11-3 victory.

Callaway (20-9), which won the Region 5-AA championship, will host B.E.S.T. Academy in the opening round of the state playoffs next week.

In Friday’s game, Callaway had six hits against a pair of Pike County pitchers.

Kyle Campbell had two hits, including an RBI double, and he also walked.

Chandler Lott had two hits with a double and he drove in a run, and Drake Wade and Wesley Marchman each had a hit.

Chandler Lott started for Callaway and pitched 4 1/3 innings, and Wesley Marchman, Brooks Bledsoe and Chase Payne went the rest of the way.

Pike County scored four runs in the first inning, three runs in the fourth, and two runs in each of the sixth and seventh innings.

Callaway scored twice in the third inning, and once in the fifth inning.
