Jones-Cameron running for district 7 seat on the Troup County school board

Tanya Katina Jones-Cameron is a candidate to represent district 7 on the Troup County School Board. Jones-Cameron is a life-long resident of Troup County. She resides in LaGrange with her husband Sidrick, and their sons, Sean, who attends Whiteville Road Elementary School, and Sidrick Jr., who attends Callaway High School and is a Cavalier Marching Band member actively enrolled in the dual enrollment program.

Jones-Cameron said she is passionate about her town and prepared to tackle the quality-of-education, equity and fiscal challenges facing district 7.

She said her goal is to provide leadership and build cohesion and collaboration.

Jones-Cameron said Troup County is a diverse community, but she will ensure the board meets the education needs of all.

She believes for that to be successful, all of the stakeholders, board members, teachers, parents, community leaders and students in the school system should be partners.

Jones-Cameron has more than 20 years of experience at Diverse Power, customer relations management and extensive marketing knowledge as CEO and owner of Sparkle’s Cookies.

Jones-Cameron holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration and a master’s in executive leadership and management.

Cameron said she made the decision to run for school board based on her passion and drive to enrich schools in her district.

If elected as a board member, she vows to vigorously promote policies and programs that strive for and support high academic achievement.

She said her first move on the school board will be to personally visit every school in the district to see firsthand their greatest need. She believes meeting with each principal and seeing in-person what schools require will help her make informed decisions that will benefit students and the community.
