Ted Maxwell “Max” Parker of Pine Mountain, Georgia, passed away peacefully on April 15 following an extended illness.  He is survived by his wife of almost 50 years (June 2, 1968), Winky Parker. 

Max was the eldest son of Delford and Ruthie Parker of Pine Mountain.  He was brother to the late Joel Parker, Jane Parker Hett, and Del Parker.  Surviving spouses include Shirley Parker, Carl Hett, and Lennice Parker.  Nephews and nieces include Joel and Katie Parker, Abigail Parker, Jennie and Chris Bryan, Capp and Brandi Hett, Jacob and Tracie Parker, Libby and Scott Aldridge and Leighton Parker. Sisters-in-law include Carolyn MacAllaster and Chris MacAllaster Brady.

Max was born on May 5, 1938, in Marietta, Georgia. He is a graduate of the Darlington School in Rome, Georgia, and the University of Georgia in Athens. He began his career at Parker Chevrolet of Pine Mountain and completed it with the US Postal Service as a rural mail carrier. Max was very active in his community and has been a member of Pine Mountain First United Methodist Church since 1947. He served on the finance committee, board of trustees, and in many other volunteer roles. In addition to church activities, he was a member and past president of the Harris County Lions Club, and a member and past president of the Pine Mountain Chamber of Commerce. At the University of Georgia. Max was a member of Sigma Nu Fraternity and also the team manager for the basketball team.  In retirement he was an active volunteer at the Chipley Historical Center in Pine Mountain. As the oldest of four siblings, Max took his role as patriarch of his family very seriously, providing guidance and advice to nieces and nephews. He and Winky cared for his mother, Ruthie, until her passing at age 98. He was the consummate southern gentleman in dress and manners. Max enjoyed RV’ing, traveling, fishing, mowing the grass at his farm, and spending time with his extended family and friends.  Max and Winky are avid Georgia Bulldog fans. He was very close to his UGA tailgating friends for over 50 years. They especially enjoyed beating Florida.

A memorial service will be held May 5 at 11 a.m. at the Pine Mountain First United Methodist Church to celebrate Max’s life. Guests are invited to wear red and black in his honor. It would have been his 80th birthday. There will be visitation and refreshments for family and friends following the service.
