Man allegedly steals phone from Verizon, pepper sprays employee

LaGrange Police are searching for a suspect who allegedly pepper sprayed employees and stole an iPhone at Verizon Wireless Monday night. According to the police report, the suspect entered the location on Lafayette Parkway and was being shown an iPhone 10 valued at $1,199.

An employee told police that the suspect provided her with his driver’s license and said he was going to purchase two phones. The employee said when he removed his driver’s license from his wallet, she saw another form of identification with a different name.

The employee said she thought he was being suspicious, so she went to the stockroom and returned to tell him there were no more iPhone 10s in stock.

According to the police report, the suspect then removed a large canister from his jacket and sprayed a substance toward her. The employee said the spray missed her but hit her manager and another co-worker. The suspect then grabbed the phone and fled on foot, according to the police report.

According to the press release, the suspect is described as African American, 25 to 30-years-old and is 6-feet-tall. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the LPD at (706) 883-2603.

A 2018 Honda Pilot was stolen from the Mike Patton Chrysler Dealership between April 11 and April 16. The manager told police they completed an audit Monday of the vehicles on the lot and discovered it was missing. The manager said they checked various location where vehicles are placed for charity events and advertisements and could not find it.

According to the police report, the key for the vehicle was checked out April 11 by a sales person for a customer to look at the vehicle, however the customer did not do a test drive. On April 16, another salesperson checked out the same key to show a customer the vehicle, and it was discovered that the vehicle was not on the lot, according to the police report. The vehicle is valued at $47,470.
