The Troup Retired Educators awarded LaGrange High School student, Alejandra Campuzano a $1,000 scholarship at their monthly meeting, Thursday, April 26, at Highland Country Club. The scholarship is named in honor of Curmilla Furgerson, who was an outstanding teacher in The LaGrange and Troup County School Systems.

Each year, a student who aspires to become a teacher is selected from one of the area high schools.

This year’s recipient explained that her desire to major in education was in part because of a teacher.

“I never considered education until a teacher made an impact upon my life. Then, I realized that my dream was to become a teacher who could make a difference, help others, and be an example to others,” Campuzano said.

Alejandra is the daughter of Isela Campuzano. She plans to attend The University of West Georgia in the fall.
