ATLANTA – The season came to a close for the LaGrange High boys’ soccer team, which fell to Marist 5-1 on Wednesday in the second round of the Class AAAA state playoffs.

The Grangers, who finished second in Region 5-AAAA, closed with a 13-5-1 record in the first season under head coach Shane Pulliam.

In Wednesday’s game, Marist started quickly with two goals in the first 12 minutes.

The first goal came when a LaGrange player accidentally kicked the ball into his own net.

LaGrange answered with a goal from Jimmy Cancino on an assist from Max Halcomb with 26:30 left in the first half.

LaGrange had a couple of great opportunities to pull even but it was unable to convert, and Marist scored again to take a 3-1 lead at the half.

Marist extended its lead with a goal early in the second half, and it capped the scoring with a goal with 21:10 to play.
