The Diverse Power Foundation recently awarded scholarships to 34 students within Diverse Power’s service area, surpassing $1 million in scholarship giving since 2003.

Established 15 years ago, the Diverse Power Foundation has awarded a total of $1,010,500 in student scholarships, including $102,000 this spring.

Selection of scholarship winners is based on grades, SAT scores, extracurricular activities, personal character, civic responsibility and financial need.

The winning students each received a $3,000 scholarship to the technical institute, junior or four-year college of their choice.

Headed by a nine-member volunteer board, the foundation distributes funds raised through Operation RoundUp, Diverse Power’s philanthropic program in which consumer-members round up their power bill to the next dollar with the extra change earmarked for education.

“We are honored to play a part in the education of young people, our leaders of tomorrow,” said Diverse Power Residential Services and Marketing Coordinator Ken Pope. “Diverse Power and the Foundation consider it a worthy investment and are especially grateful for Diverse Power members who round up their bill to make it possible.”

Diverse Power is a member-owned, not-for-profit cooperative that provides electricity and related services in west and southwest Georgia and east Alabama.
