FACES to hold Community Fest May 19

Family and Children’s Educational Services Inc. will host the second annual Troup County Community Fest on May 19.

The free event is open to everyone in the community and will feature food, games, face painting, live music and more. Kevin Dunn, Byron Carter, the LaGrange High School Black History Choir and Picassio Jennings are scheduled to perform at the event.

“This is our second fest, and we are looking for a lot of participation, a lot of engaging conversations and just having fun,” said Dr. Tara Scott, the co-founder and director of educational services for FACES. “We will have a lot of things out there.”

The event will feature a Troup County Field Day complete with sack races, a 100-yard dash and 50-yard dash. Local vendors will also attend the event to provide information to the community, and Life South will take blood donations. The Jungle Bus is also scheduled to make an appearance.

Scott said the most important part of the event will be the community engagement.

“It is important because it is kind of difficult to get a lot of people together at one time and one location,” Scott said. “Troup County is large, so people don’t have the opportunity to have conversations about what is offered, like resources and connections and keeping those lasting relationships going. It gives the children the opportunity to connect with other children as well as families to have a dialogue and assimilate the communities even better.”

Feeding the Valley is also scheduled to participate in this year’s event by giving out free food boxes.

FACES has been in operation since 2003, according to Scott. The organization operates in Troup and Chambers County and focuses on programs for children and communities. Scott said the community fest will be another chance to allow the community to gather together and get to know the people and the opportunities in the county.

“This is bringing all the community together in Troup County and allowing them to have better and positive relationships and learn about community resources,” Scott said.

FACES’s 2018 Troup County Community Fest will take place at the Troup County Soccer Complex at 299 Fort Drive from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. To learn more about the event, visit Facesinc.net or call (706) 443-4319.
