LPD searches for suspect accused of assaulting girlfriend

The LaGrange Police Department is looking for a suspect who allegedly physically abused his girlfriend on Tuesday.

The suspect, 38-year-old Laron Mathis, is accused of injuring his girlfriend at a house on Whiteville Street around 9:45 a.m. , according to a press release from the LaGrange Police Department. The victim had injuries to her neck and face. She told police that an argument with Mathis turned physical, and that he assaulted her, according to the press release.

The victim fled to a neighbor’s residence and contacted police, while Mathis fled the scene in the victim’s vehicle, according to the report.

According to the press release, the investigation revealed that Mathis had held the victim against her will in the residence before she was able to escape.

The victim was treated and released from WellStar West Georgia Medical Center.

Mathis has several outstanding warrants for his arrest in regards to this incident.

He is 6-feet-2, 225 pounds, and may be in the West Point, Lanett or Valley areas, according to Sgt. William Nelson.
