State golf tournament kicks off

TJ Ormbsy carded a 75 to pace the LaGrange High boys’ golf team on the opening day of the Class AAAA tournament at Achasta Golf Club in Dahlonega.

Preston Pelham added a 76 for LaGrange, which is in 12th place after the first of two rounds.

The second and final round will be today.

John Crawford shot an 83 for LaGrange, and Hudson Graham added an 86 to round out the scoring.

Trent Smith shot an 87, and Juston Edmondson shot an 88.

The top four scores counted toward the team total.

Columbus is in first place, and it leads by eight shots over St. Pius X.

Also on Monday, the girls’ teams from LaGrange and Troup opened play in the Class AAAA state tournament at Innsbruck Resort & Golf Club in Helen.

LaGrange is in ninth place, while Troup is 16th.

LaGrange was led by Blakely Arp, shot a 92, while Sydney Ormsby finished with a 93.

Ally Arp shot a 62 for LaGrange.

For Troup, Abby Taylor led the way with a 116, Kyla Bedingfield shot a 126, and Taylor Kennedy completed the scoring with a 127.

Sydney Lindsey also competed and shot a 132.

Woodward Academy is in first place, and it holds a 10-shot advantage over Central-Carroll.
