TROUP — There was a slight decrease in the Troup County voter turnout for this year’s primary election compared to past election cycles.

There were 6,409 total Troup County voters for this year’s primary election. 

Approximately 16.97 percent of registered voters in the county showed up to the polls to vote in this primary election cycle, which includes both early voters and those who voted on Tuesday. 

Four years ago, approximately 20 percent of registered voters showed up to the polls, according to Troup County Elections Supervisor Andrew Harper.

“The governor’s race doesn’t really bring in the turnout that other races do, like the President’s race,” Harper said.  

The polls in Troup County were open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday. Early voting was open for three weeks from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. from Monday through Friday. Saturday voting was also an option on May 12 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
