The transition from high school to college is usually a difficult one, but Furman’s Ben Anderson has made it look easy.

Anderson, a freshman outfielder from LaGrange High, has enjoyed a monster season, and on Monday it was announced that he’s a first-team member of the all-Southern Conference team.

Anderson has been starting since day one, and in his 50 regular-season games, he led the team in batting average (.376), RBIs (39), hits (73), triples (seven), total bases (107), slugging percentage (.552), on-base percentage (.477) and multi-hit games (22).

Anderson set the school record with his seven triples, and he’s the first Furman freshman to make the first team since 1979.

Anderson and his Furman teammates will open play in the conference tournament today.

Furman, the number seven seed, will play second-seeded Samford at 4 p.m. in Greenville (S.C.).

Anderson comes into the tournament opener having reached base in 32 consecutive games.

At LaGrange, Anderson was a four-year starter, and he helped lead the team to a spot in the Class AAAA semifinals last season.
