Troup County saw heavy rainfall on Monday as Subtropical Storm Alberto made landfall. That rain resulted in a flash flood warning throughout the region, which will likely still be in effect when this edition of the LaGrange Daily News is delivered.

While most of us know if our own driveways and the roads near our homes flood, it is important to slow down and be conscious of excessive water on all roads.

That means that while the roads are wet don’t use cruise control, leave room between vehicles and — of course — put your cell phone away. (This wet weather is the perfect reminder to set up your hands free options before the distracted driving bill takes effect in Georgia on July 1.)

If you hydroplane, remember to take your foot off of the gas, do not brake and gently steer the car in the direction that you need to go.

If it is raining, turn on your lights to make it easier for other drivers to see you, and if the rainfall becomes too heavy to comfortably see through, pull over when it is safe to do so.

The National Weather Service in Peachtree City was predicting only 2 to 3 inches of rain between Monday afternoon and Wednesday. However, conditions can change quickly, and it is important to be aware of surrounding conditions.
