Sunsets at Sweetland series to begin on Friday with the movie ‘Jumanji’

The annual Sunsets at Sweetland series will begin on Friday at Sweetland Amphitheatre.

According to a press release from the Downtown LaGrange Development Authority, the amphitheater will host free music and a movie three times this summer. All three events are picnic approved, meaning outside food and beverage are allowed, along with picnic blankets and chairs. 

Admission is always free and games are available for children to play with until sunset. Local vendors also take part, including Frios Gourmet Pops, Kona Ice, Holloway’s Pork Skins, popcorn, cotton candy, snacks and soft drinks. Wild Leap Brew Co. craft beer will be on tap and wine will be available by the glass. For more event information, please visit www.downtownlagrange.com or www.sweetland.events

Here’s the schedule for the summer:

June 1 — Local band Rye Ola will play R&B, rock and jazz favorites before the movie — the new version of “Jumanji” — will be shown on the outdoor screen.  Before the movie, Wild Animal Safari will be on site to provide an animal encounter on Sweetland’s great lawn with some of their favorite traveling animals from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.  Children can tour the Jungle Bus book mobile, get a free book to take home and visit with Jungle Jama. They can also create an animal mask at LaGrange Art Museum’s Creation station for free. Tie dye a Sweetland t-shirt for $10.

June 29 — Right before the Fourth of July holiday, Sunsets at Sweetland will include an opportunity to meet local WWII veterans in the Boyd Pavilion at 7 p.m. The Community Band will play its annual patriotic concert on the Sweetland Amphitheatre stage at 8 p.m. After the concert, the movie “Wonder Woman” will show at 9 p.m. Call (706) 298-4534 to reserve a stage side table for free. prize.

Aug. 3 — Local band Front Porch Collective will perform and the movie “Sing” will be shown at dusk.
