Community spirit can easily be seen in LaGrange. Multiple fundraisers, 5Ks and festivals are held throughout the city every year.

In the last year, the model mile of The Thread trail, and even part two, has helped with the sense of community. The Chick-fil-A 5K/Fun Run and the St. Patrick’s Day 5K/Fun Run were held at the model mile, and the ribbon cutting for segment two also had a 5K/Fun Run.

Even without events going on, it’s impossible not to cross paths with someone walking a dog, talking with a partner or pushing a stroller. The segments of the planned 29-mile trail are already introducing people from different parts of the city.

It’s just the beginning of bring the community together. Last week, the City of LaGrange broke ground on the third segment, which will connect Granger Park with LaGrange College.

The .9-mile-long planned segment is expected to be completed by fall. The new segment will begin at the model mile on West Haralson, go down North Greenwood Street, Broad Street and Panther Way to Vernon Street before ending by LaGrange College.

LaGrange College president Dan McAlexander said at the ground breaking that it will connect the college to downtown. More importantly it connects the school with the community physically and strengthens its relationship.

The college already has performances and lectures open to the community. The new segment is an opportunity for the college and the community to interact. The development is building the community and bringing it closer.
