He’s just rolling with it.

The life of a big-time recruit can be a stressful one, particularly in this era of social media when it’s difficult for a player to be insulated.

The recruiting battles are something Callaway High offensive lineman Keiondre Jones has had to deal with for years.

Even before he was in high school Jones was already getting attention from elite college programs, including Alabama.

While being a high-profile recruit can be overwhelming for anyone, Jones has handled it all with a smile on his face.

“On Twitter, I’ve got 50 notifications in 30 minutes,” Jones said on Friday during the West Georgia Superstar Football Camp. “I posted a tweet that had like 1,000 likes. It’s crazy. It took me a little while to get used to. But it’s straight.”

Jones has plenty of time to make his decision.

There is an early-signing period in December, or recruits can sign during the traditional signing period in February.

For the moment, Jones’ primary concern is getting ready for a new season.

Jones was unable to participate in spring practice because of an injury, and he was impressed with what he saw during the spring game against Montgomery-Catholic.

Despite missing Jones, Callaway’s offense was dominant on the way to the 33-0 victory in the spring game at Jacksonville State.

Cartavious “Tank” Bigsby had a 77-yard touchdown, and Charlie Dixon had a long scoring run called because of a penalty.

LaQuize Gilbert added a touchdown run, and quarterback Jacob Freeman had a scoring run.

“The running backs we’ve got, you just have to get in the way for like two seconds, and Tank, Charlie and all those guys are gone,” Jones said.

When a new season rolls around, Callaway will benefit from having a formidable offensive line anchored by Jones and fellow senior Keshawn Cameron.

Jones said the two have a friendly rivalry that will carry over into the season.

“Keshawn actually beat me in pancakes last year,” Jones said. “That’s why I said if he beats me this year, I’ll take him out to eat. We go at it every day in practice.”

Callaway will open its season on Aug. 24 against Opelika.

For the past two summers, Jones helped out during the West Georgia Superstar Football Camp.

Jones grew up attending the camp, even though football wasn’t a sport he was 100 percent committed to.

That changed as Jones approached high school.

“I didn’t really have a sport (growing up),” Jones said. “In the eighth grade, I realized I could be good at it. I played basketball and baseball and all of that. I gave all that up to play football.”

Jones enjoys being on the instruction end of the sport.

“I like teaching,” he said. “It’s a lot of stuff I’ve learned over the years, little things I’ve picked up.”
